Road to The Finals: 2018 NBA Playoffs

The National Basketball Association finals began in the 19491950 season. Since then, a handful of teams have dominated the Playoffs and Finals.

Decades of Rivals

With the Lakers making 31 appearances in The Finals with 16 wins, they come in second only to the Celtics. While the Celtics have fewer appearances (21), they hold the title of most successful team in the NBA Finals, with 17 championships.

While these two teams dominated for multiple seasons, boasting one for the best rivalries in NBA history. They also hold the record for most consecutive wins, a record set back in 1966 with eight consecutive titles from 1959 to 1966.

A New Era in Basketball

In recent years, the Lakers/Celtic dominance has waned. It’s been 7 seasons since the Celtics and Lakers made their most recent appearance in The Finals, leaving room for new teams to rise and claim the title of Champion.

At the end of the 2016-2017 season, the Warriors defeated the Cavaliers and took home the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy. Over the next few weeks, 16 teams will face off in a best-of-seven elimination tournament to determine who will have a change to claim the Championship in 2108.
